Teams
Figure skating can be a team sport! There are two disciplines of skating where athletes compete as a team:
Synchronized Skating
Synchronized Skating is a team sport in which 8-20 skaters perform a program together. It uses the same judging system as singles, pairs and ice dance, and is characterized by teamwork, speed, intricate formations and challenging step sequences. WFSC is currently represented by two synchronized skating teams: Team Ashburn, and DC EDGE.
Theatre On Ice
Theatre On Ice (TOI) is a form of competitive figure skating that combines technical jumps and spins with unique choreography, ice dance, synchronized skating and theater to tell a story. This relatively new branch of figure skating is very popular in Europe, where it is known as Ballet On Ice. Teams consist of between eight and 30 skaters. WFSC is represented in TOI by Capital Theater On Ice.
