Founded in 1938, and sanctioned by US Figure Skating in 1939, the Washington Figure Skating Club (WFSC) supports Freestyle, Dance, Moves in the Field, Synchronized Teams and Theater on Ice.

FLIGHT 5342 MEMORIAL FUND

On January 29, 2025, American Eagle Flight 5342 was tragically involved in a mid-air collision, resulting in the loss of many figure skaters, their families, and coaches from the Washington, DC area. They were returning from the National Development Camp in Wichita, Kansas.

In response to this tragedy, the Board of Governors of the Washington Figure Skating Club (WFSC) has established the Flight 5342 Memorial Fund to honor the skaters, families, and coaches who lost their lives in this event. The fund will be managed within the Capitol Skating Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization created after the 2003 World Figure Skating Championships to support skaters and skating organizations throughout the greater Washington, DC area.

The Flight 5342 Memorial Fund aims to provide financial assistance to figure skaters from the DC area who are invited to participate in the US Figure Skating National Development Camp. This prestigious, invitation-only training camp is designed for skaters at the Juvenile and Novice levels and supports the development of the next generation of competitive figure skaters.

Donations may be made directly here or through the Capitol Skating Fund Website.

On Saturday, February 8, from 5 PM to 10 PM, WFSC will host a Memorial Tribute at the Glenview Mansion, located at 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville, MD. This year’s annual Winter Social has been repurposed to honor our skating community. Other clubs that have lost members will also be invited to join us. Our programming committee is preparing a video for this event. If you have photos or videos you would like to contribute, please include them with your RSVP or send them to presidentofwfsc@gmail.com
